Boral is an international building products and construction materials group with three divisions: the leading integrated construction materials business of Boral Australia; USG Boral, a plasterboard joint venture in Asia, Australia and the Middle East; and Boral North America, a building products and fly ash business. Employing more than 23,000 employees and contractors, Boral's operations span 783 operating and distribution sites globally.
FY2020 marked a challenging year. In addition to Boral-specific, internal challenges, the company was confronted with the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the devastating impact of the Australian bushfires.
Boral reported a net profit after tax of $177 million excluding significant items for the year ended 30 June 2020, compared to $419 million in the prior period. Significant items, including a net non-cash impairment, totalled $1,316 million, resulting in a statutory net loss after tax of $1,139 million.
We recognise that improved performance and sustainable outcomes for all our stakeholders is critical for Boral’s long term success. Boral is currently completing a comprehensive portfolio review, looking at all of our businesses and assets, with a view to improve earnings and sustainable growth in the future.
